Homemade cough syrup with thyme at home.
The recipe is from the book “Thyme and Oregano, healing and cooking herbs”
“Thyme is a preventive antibiotic for flu epidemics. Hippocrates, in his writtings on diet, says that the thyme is heating, diuretic and expels phlegm. Thyme heals bronchitis and strengthens the immune system against the flu or colds.”

One more great and healthy salad today, and also, a big welcome to the first lettuce of the season!
- 4-5 lettuce leaves
- 1 small cucumber
- 1 small red pepper
- Half a quince
- 1 beetroot head
- A few cracked green olives
- Pickled eggplant, carrot and pepper (optional)
- 1 fresh green onion
- For marinading the quince: 1 cup olive oil, 2 tbsp vinegar, 1 tbsp honey or grape syrup, salt and pepper
- Some sesame seeds
- 1-2 barley rusks

Today, autumn is getting quite serious. It’s been raining all day and the temperature is down a few degrees. I feel that the mood for tomato and cucumber salads is gone for good, along with the sea swimming days I guess!
Plus, today I checked the 2 jars of pickled veggies I made last week, and since they were a success, I had to try them in a salad!
- 1 cup lentils
- 2 carrots
- 1 green onion
- 2-3 slices of pickled eggplant
- 1 pickled red pepper
- 1 tbsp raisins
- A few celery leaves
- A few green cracked olives
- Olive oil

I had to come up with a new recipe, since I had plenty eggplants from my garden. Of course, I gave away some of them, but still, I had enough left.
Inspired by several other recipes, I finally made up this one, which I named: “short of greek moussaka”. It has a few similarities with the famous moussaka, but it is far more easy, healthier, and quite yummy!
